Ramona Rotary Club's project is to provide outdoor lighting for safety at the community park and teen center on Montecito Road. We believe the project falls within economic and community development focus area. It is at the same location as our Rotarians at Work Day project, which was cleaning up the park so that it could be more inviting for use by the community. The park is near numerous apartment complexes and has the potential of providing many recreational activities for Ramona residents.
The park as been the target of vandals, underage drinking, theft and other crimes. We are working with the sheriff's department and school district to clean this area, light it for safety and security reasons and to provide a healthy outlet for area residents.
Ramona Rotary has committed to maintaining this park, which is on school district property. County money paid for the playground and other park equipment, thus opening it to the community. The property once housed a school and is now home to the town's teen center that is operated by volunteers. Ten to 15 Rotarians are committed to maintaining the park. The proposed project has the support of the sheriff's department, the school district and the teen center.
