In order to plan the most effective VTT proposal it is necessary to send a team to Bangladesh to accomplish a Needs Assessment. It is proposed to send a team of 4 persons in late August or early September for a 10 day journey . 2 sites for study are to be examined:. The first site is in Sylhet where district 5790 has a long history in developing rehabilitation services. The other physical therapy site is in the southwest of the country. Preliminary information indicates that the largest needs are for stroke and palsey victims, but the need for protheses is also deemed high.
To effectively plan a VTT and possibly a global grant as a long term, sustainable project 2 rehabilitation professionals from the Hendricks Rehabilitation Hospital in Abilene will work on a full needs assessment to include equipment as well as training components. The other 2 participants will be working with the local Rotary clubs and district officials to arrange for housing, local transportation, dates, and other components of the program.
It is hoped to have this assessment completed by November of this year in anticipation of planning the project for the following grant year.
This grant is only for transportation to and from Bangladesh. All costs while there will be met by the host Rotary District.
