Summary: The grant will purchase materials for English Language Learners and bi-lingual materials for learners of all ages.
Sitka is a town with high number of non-English speakers from the Philippines and Mexico, who would like more opportunities at the local public library to learn English or improve their English skills. Sitka also has a number of people - kids and adults - who would like to learn another language. We propose purchasing materials for English Language Learners (ELL), as well as bilingual books to support our established "Spanish Storytime" for children. A third need is bolstering our foreign language learning section for Sitkans interested in helping ELL patrons in Sitka, other cultures and foreign travel. Sitka Rotary Club members will be involved in volunteering for the conversation group, storytelling time and researching and selecting the most up-to-date and effective materials.
