Project Description Country: USA Location: Helena, MT Total Budget: $10,100 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: The Rotary Club of Helena - Sunrise will team with the Helena Education Foundation to provide every first grade student in the Helena School District a hardcover book. Fabulous First is the Helena Education Foundations' way of emphasizing the importance of reading as key to student success, as well as a lifetime pleasure. The event ensures that each first grader in Helena's 11 elementary public schools receives a hardcover book as a gift. The Rotary Club of Helena Sunrise will work through a partnership with the Foundation and a local book store to purchase and distribute the books prior to the start of the 2022 school year. The number of students is estimated to be 675. The title will be selected from the best new fiction for children by the elementary school librarians. The books will be presented at reading celebrations at each of the elementary schools in late August or September of the 2022 school year. Bookplates will be affixed to each book recognizing the sponsors who made this possible, including Rotary International. Rotary club members will join in the celebration in late August or September and read with the students. In addition to the student books, a full set of the titles for each elementary library as well as the County Public Library will be provided as well.
