Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development
Activity Type:
Education: General
Summary: Provide 250 bags with learning games, toys and supplies to children as they transition from Clare House in Anchorage, Alaska.
To assist Clare House as they build a process of learning for the children who come through the transitional housing until their mothers can re-establish a stable household on their own. Clare House offers a safe warm shelter, food and necessities to mothers and children who are in distressed situations. Rotary members will research, purchase, deliver and any necessary set up of games, toys and instructional learning supplies, using the project funds, to provide learning opportunities and at the same time enjoyment of play. Some of these children have had interrupted education and schooling due to moving a lot and inconsistent home lives. When the family is ready to leave Clare House, Rotary provides a carry bag for each child with learning supplies and their favorite of the games or toys that they have learned to play. Rotary members will replenish the inventory of games, toys and supplies as children transition out and new children come into the housing facility. Anchorage International Rotary Club has an existing relationship with Clare House as we provide dinner six times per year including the annual holiday dinner right before Christmas. Our hope is the project helps these children with learning and some consistency in their lives of not losing everything they know when they are moved.
