Summary: The M.E.S.A. is an afterschool program that is run by the Youth Development Unit within the Mesa Police Department and works in partnership with Mesa Unified School District,
The M.E.S.A. program has been in place since 2007. Every spring and fall the Mesa Police Department runs the 9-week program at Kino Jr. High targeting students with behavioral and academic issues. There several classes providing life skills training along with tutoring to improve academic performance. The students are also required to do some kind of physical fitness every day of the 4-day program. Every Tuesday night parents of the students are to attend a mandatory parent education class. After the 9 week program, the students will have graduated and be treated to dinner at a local restaurant.
The club and district funds will be used to buy Shoes, Shirts, Shorts, Water, Snacks, Supplies, reward gift cards, incentives, Dinners, Graduation Video, Parking at Phoenix Suns Game, and Teambuilding meals.
Club members participate in the classroom and in teambuilding events. They will also attended the class graduations.
