This is an ongoing project that is fully supported by all the members of the Gillette Energy Rotary. The focus of the project is to prevent influenza in as many school children as possible each year. In 2020-2021, 2000 students received the vaccinations. The Center for Disease Control recommends a yearly flu vaccination as the first and most important step in protecting against flu and its potentially serious complications. This project would provide flu vaccinations for any school student from Kindergarten through grade twelve.
The VIP Project (Vaccines for Influenza Prevention) will be asking for both financial and in-kind contributions for this effort, from a partnership of sources, including; Campbell County Health Foundation, Campbell County Memorial Hospital, Campbell County Government, and Campbell County School District and private donors.
Because of medical privacy restrictions, the Community Health Partnership has been reluctant to allow Rotary members to be on site where the vaccinations are given. So, this year we plan to contact the schools, 13 elementary, 3 junior high and 4 high school, to volunteer to be available to help the counselors and nurses with paperwork, getting students lined up for the shots and generally help where needed. This is such a large partnership and group of donors, that it would be impossible to have someone from every agency on site, but we continue to try to be involved and on-hand.
