The Global IT Academy (GITA) is a computer science academy located at the Brea Olinda High School which requires up-to-date computer equipment to meet the main goal of GITA - to have a lab that can accommodate a multimedia development environment where students perform college level programing and software making skills. The existing computer lab is approximately nine years old and has operating systems and software that are out of date. The Brea Global IT Academy Upgrade Project will provide GITA with 10 new notebook computers, 2 new video cameras, and 3 new iPads. The notebook computers will aid in the technical programming. The video cameras will aid in enhancing the multimedia capabilities of GITA. The iPads will enable the GITA students to showcase their work throughout the Brea Olinda school district. Most importantly, the upgrades will provide an up to date functioning lab for daily classroom use. Also, the upgrades will facilitate the creation of a more "portable" lab that can be used throughout the school district. GITA students will be able to use their equipment to teach after school programs for elementary and junior high students as well as offer classes through the Brea Community Center for adults.
The project will start 10/1/2013 and end 12/31/2013.
The project funds will be used specifically to purchase:
10 Dell Inspiron Labtops @ $600 = $6000
2 x Sony Cameras @ $250 = $500
3x Apple iPads @ $500 = $1500
Brea Rotary club members will be involved in 2 ways. First, Brea Rotarians will take a tour of the GITA lab and present the upgrades to the GITA classroom directly. Second, Brea Rotarians will participate with the students in a hands-on project in which the new upgraded equipment will be used in a collaborative effort by the GITA students and Brea Rotarians to create a video history of the Brea Rotary Club including its signature, ongoing, 30 year old community project BREAL - an ultra low income senior apartment building. This video history will be added to the Brea Rotary Club website and serve as a model for the GITA program.
