The Denton Rotary Club is seeking to produce an Adoption Fair in January 2022 with the objective to place Denton Area Child Protective Services Foster Children into permanent homes with adoptive parents. The club has sponsored the project for more than six years, and CPS has disclosed to us that our event has been very successful.
At the Adoption Fair, we provide a variety of table games and experiences for the children. Prospective parents walk around observing the children involved in these activities. Soon children and adults make connections and conversations and interactions begin.
For privacy reasons, CPS does not reveal the exact number and names of children or parents that have achieved success as a result of our Adoption Fairs. CPS allows only Rotary Clubs to participate in this type of event. The funds requested will be used for the rental of a gym and cafeteria school space, for food, snacks, games, prizes, and gifts for the children. Approximately 30 Club members will be involved on the day of the event. Other local clubs have agreed to send volunteers to help.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
With permission from Rotarian Dusty Babitsky we are changing the purpose for this district grant. The Adoption Fair could not be accomplished this year because Child Protective Services could not provide foster children for the project because of lingering Covid concerns. Our purpose for this grant money is to provide college scholarships to Denton area high school students. The Denton Rotary Club will provide four $1,000 scholarships and use this grant money to fund part of these scholarships.
