Summary: Providing age appropriate books to local public schools for second graders
We wish to do a literacy project targeting second grade students. The intent is to provide specific students most in need of excellent age appropriate books as identified by the classroom teacher and librarian. Once identified, students will be presented with a book of their own by the Fountain Valley Rotary Club. Each book will be identified as a Rotary gift to the student. The project timeline begins with the start of school and by the end of the first trimester in early December, students will be identified and names presented to the Rotary club. Beginning with the second trimester in December in conjunction with the librarian books will be ordered. Once the books are received, each book will be marked with a gift sticker indicating the donor as the Fountain Valley Rotary Club. A presentation of the books will be made at the school by the FV Rotary by the end of the second trimester in March. Project funds will be used to purchase the books and club members will be involved through their preparation for delivery and presentation. Research states that students who are able to read by the third grade will have a significantly greater chance of success in school through high school graduation.
