Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Joliet

Total Budget: $1,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Partnering with the YMCA to teach children to swim

For 8 days, children are bused from their school to the YMCA located in Joliet, IL. These are grade school children from the East side of Joliet which is a low income area. Many of these children have never been in the water. 4-5 Joliet Rotarians will volunteer each day to be in the pool and on the deck to assist children one-on-one It is our intent to make sure these children can be safe near and in water, improve their ability to swim, decrease their fear and of course, have some fun! There are 8-10 children who attend every day for 8 days.
