This project is a result of a presentation given to our club which highlighted the needs of war impacted children in Ukraine, which a local speaker documented. This project will replicate the "comfort pac" aspect of the speaker's trip, by purchasing, packing and distributing 1,000 comfort pacs to Ukraine children refugees and orphans. The project will take place this summer with the participation of children in Steamboat Springs summer camps, the Boys and Girls Club and the use of our Rotary Peace Pavilion, as part of our peace programming efforts.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Due to the ever changing conditions in Ukraine, we have revised our project as follows:
School children in Steamboat Springs will create 500 "encouragement cards" to be included in"comfort pacs" (also containing a Honey Stinger waffle) to be packed by our Rotary members and delivered, by a Steamboat resident, to the newly opened Center for Wellness in Kyiv. The Center treats children (and adult) victims of war who are in need of mental health treatment. Our grant will also fund supplies and the development of community outreach and training programs for the Wellness Center.
