Project Description

Country: USA

Location: La Mesa, CA

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Reading Books provided for Kinder-3rd Grade students at Harriet Tubman Village Charter School in La Mesa.

In accordance to the new national Common Core State Standards in Literacy, students in grades Kinder through Third require substantial amounts of reading materials available to them. In order to meet these demands, the Rotary Club of La Mesa Sunrise has opted to provide books for the students of Harriet Tubman Village Charter School. Upon funding of this project, a LMSR designee will work with the school to purchase enough books to improve the classroom libraries of these classrooms. Members of the club will subsequently be recruited to deliver the books and create a schedule for reading to students on a regular basis from those books. Books will be purchased from a variety of vendors: Rolling Readers, The Book Man, and Scholastic Book Club in order to ensure the most efficient use of the moneys as well as the best selection of books for students.
