Project Description Country: Mexico Location: Eastern Tijuana Total Budget: $7,500 Areas of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Maternal and child health Activity Type: Community Development: Volunteer Services Summary: Rotarians will help build a home for a family in need in far eastern Tijuana, Mexico The Rotary Club of Chula Vista has worked in collaboration with Project Mercy for 16+ years. It is a profoundly moving experience - very tiring too! It is cited as the favorite project of our club by most members. Members provide support through the donation of household items - even if they cannot go in person the day of the build. It is life-changing for the family receiving the home and represents a fresh start. The simple wooden structure addresses many basic needs: shelter, security, health, alleviates extreme poverty and helps build a sense of community, promoting goodwill and peace. We plan to build another home in eastern Tijuana this Rotary year. The cost will be $7500. The Rotary Club of Chula Vista has pledged $5500 for the home build. The District grant would help our Club continue this deeply humanitarian project. We are requesting $2000 in DDF funds to meet the cost of the project.
