Project Description Country: USA Location: Abilene, Texas Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Dictionaries will be distributed to every 3rd grader at one Abilene ISD elementary Literacy is a major concern especially in today's digital/video world. We have identified a low socio-economic elementary where some students may not have a book in thier home. By providing dictionaries (embosed with the student's name) we giv ethem both and opportunity to read, but oft times, a believe in the outside world and a sense of owning thier own book. Our club members ditribute the books in December or January (depending on the school administration). Club members attend an assembly where each student is called by name and receive the dictionary form a club member.
