We have a new GED class that started in 2021, with four students. It has grown now to 15 students, due to an unanticipated very high need in our community. It is currently ran through our at-risk youth department at the County, but there is no funding for it in this department. When they had only a few students, the woman who runs the at-risk youth program was able to be the instructor, use her county budget and resources, and keep the students on track. However, with 15 students that is not possible. She is personally funding a large portion of this program because she believes in it so deeply. The program is requesting emergency stop-gap funding from anywhere they can find it to get them through. They have secured an instructor, but need to pay for her salary, get computers and rent a space for the students to use, as well as pay for any additional supplies. They are exploring more permanent funding sources, and this would just be to get them through until the new county budget is approved in June.
