Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Glendale, Arizona

Total Budget: $2,500

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Prom Closet 2023 provided attire for over 600 underprivileged youth to be able to attend formal events

We are requesting funding for the Prom Closet. This project is ongoing. Rotarians from several local Clubs support this project. Rotarians actively volunteer their time assisting with inventory, tagging and sizing the attire, and shopping with students to find their dream attire. The Prom Closet was created to address the financial barriers that prevent many students from attending prom and other formal events. We want to reach as many students as possible and ensure that no student is turned away due to lack of inventory or resources. We plan on partnering with schools, community organizations, and social service agencies. The Prom Closet has needs for materials such as portable dressing rooms, clothing racks and tagging materials. I can tell you from personal experience, volunteering as a "shopper" for over 8 hours at this year's event - this project touches the community and the kids, and the volunteers. We received news coverage both about the event as well as about Rotary. I hope you will consider funding this grant request as it will make a difference.

Note: I used my home address as a mailing address for the payment.
