Project Description Country: USA Location: Kodiak, Alaska Total Budget: $8,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Scholarship Summary: Four Additional Educational Scholarships for Kodiak Students This project will allow the Kodiak Rotary Club to expand our scholarship program. The club will grant four (4) $1,000 scholarships for the 2023 - 2024 school year. Two of these scholarships will go to graduating Kodiak High School students and two will go to Kodiak students continuing their post high school education. Thanks to the generosity of two club members the club will be able to offer two additional scholarships, for a total of six (6) scholarships. Due to the quality and the number of scholarship applications received (twice as as many as last year) we are requesting a district grant of $4,000 to allow us to extend our scholarship reach. Students have already been selected to receive these funds, if the district is able to grant this request. An example of the benefit/reach of the club's scholarship program is found in a student who has received a number of scholarships from the club. This student is a Kodiak High School graduate and a continuing education scholarship recipient last year. This student will be finishing a Masters degree in Reading Literacy in May and will be teaching in the Kodiak Island Borough School District next year. We are excited about the opportunity to provide additional scholarships to Kodiak students; benefiting the students, their families and the Kodiak community should this request be funded.
