Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: YMCA Camp Peggy Lake Pavilions for Archery Range and BB Gun Range, Mat-Su Borough Mile 99 Parks Highway

YMCA of Alaska Camp Peggy Lake is in need of covered pavilions for their Archery Range and BB Gun Range. Two of the most popular learning activities at camp take place at the BB gun range and the Archery range. Campers learn about the equipment and how to safely use it. Camp takes place rain or shine but these two activities are susceptible to inclement weather. A tough weather week during camp can dramatically reduce a campers' participation in these activities. The construction of two pavilions would help facilitate these activities, rain or shine. This project will be completed by August 31, 2023. The funds will be used to purchase the kits and the labor will be supplied by Wasilla Sunrise Rotary volunteers. Mat-Su YMCA envisions their non-profit organization- in partnership with others- as an intergenerational community hub with programs, services, and resources available to all persons, regardless of status or ability to pay, that will enable them to improve their quality of life.

Rental of Bobcat/mini dozer to clear and prepare building site as well as the shooting lanes and target areas.

Total estimated cost for site prep and construction of two pole barns: $30,000

The price of the pole barns are developed as a kit and delivered to the camp. Having this done as a kit and delivered to the camp would be the best option.

YMCA of Alaska will contribute the balance needed for this project ($10,000).
