Background:
A disjointed trail currently runs through the middle of the City of Kenai from the new location of the Kenai Dog Park at Daubenspek Park, through the Bernie Huss Fitness Trail near the library to Old Town Kenai. A walking loop can be mapped. A QR code can be put on signage along the loop so a walker can start anywhere along the loop and get their 10,000 steps or whatever portion suits their time availability and health need.
Purpose and Reach:
Walking 10,000 steps a day has a positive effect on mental and physical health, including reducing stress and improving mood.
Finances:
Graphic map that aligns with City of Kenai Parks and Rec Standard ~ $300.00
Signage with QR code ~ $1,200.00
Rack Cards, also with QR code ~ $200.00
Total $1,800.00
District 5010 Request $900.00; Kenai Club $900.00
Timeline:
The loop trail will be mapped summer 2023. Signage and website information will be generated fall 2023. Rack cards will be printed in winter 2023-24, and placed around town spring 2024.
Rotary and City of Kenai Engagement:
This is a project that ultimately happens on City land. The Rotary Club of Kenai has engaged the City of Kenai Parks and Rec Department and they are interested in the establishment of this project.
