Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Juneau Alaska

Total Budget: $7,500

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Two picnic tables for Rotary Park in Juneau Alaska

Last year Glacier Valley Rotary utilized a district grant to install a large picnic shelter at our clubs Rotary Park in Juneau Alaksa. During my year i would like to equip this wonderful new shelter with two large picnic tables that match the rough solid wood construction of the shelter. This will allow larger groups and families a place to hold events and celebrations. Currently there are no larger shelters available for picnics at city parks in the Mendenhall area. These tables will be made by local craftsmen using locally sourced materials. Club members will be involved in fundraising for the tables as well as the assembly and placement of them once they arrive. My goal is to have these tables installed by Labor Day.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

P-4652 (Vietnam Community Assessment) was cancelled and the $4,000 DDF committed to that district grant was freed up. $500 of this sum was distributed to Juneau-Glacier Valley Rotary. This club matched this sum with $500. Follows the explanation of what the funds were used for:

Our original request for funds was reduced due to overdemand for DDF funds. We in turn had to reduce our contribution to the project. We also changed from custom made tables to pre made to reduce our cost. We decided to wait until now to order the tables for delivery in March. The cost for 4 tables and shipping to Seattle came in about $1,000 over our available funds. Now that there is more DDF funds available I would like to request an additional $500 in DDF funds to help cover the increases cost of the tables and shipping. Our club will also contribute an additional $500 toward the project. We expect to have the tables delivered and installed by the end of April should we receive the additional funds soon.

After our initial DDF request was reduced, we have changed to getting pre-made tables to allow us to get more tables for the shelter. Tables are being ordered this month and will be delivered in April for installation in May or June.
