Project Description Country: USA Location: Fairbanks Total Budget: $4,500 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Health: Volunteer Services Summary: Funding to NAMI to support their nationally recognized program for suicide prevention in the schools, social clubs etc Suicide is a major concern in Fairbanks and especially for teenagers and especially for girls who spend a lot of time on facebook and other internet sites. NAMI, National Association for the Mentally Ill, has a program that will train volunteers to go to the schools in Fairbanks and give information and seminars to students and to parents about suicide prevention. This is a nationally recognized program which they could not afford to do, given a lack of funding. I am chairing the Golden Heart Rotary Club golf fundraiser and we pledge $3000.00 of the proceeds to this project, hoping District Grant will cover the rest.
