Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Baker City, Or

Total Budget: $1,781

Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: One ping pong table in a city park in the city of Baker City that will benefit all residents and visitors to the park.

Children in our community need fun things to do outdoors that do not cost them money. We want to install a concrete ping pong table in Geiser Pollman park that will allow them to do something fun outdoors. We are working with local entities including the library that are willing to check out paddles and balls that we will provide. This project was featured in the Rotarian magazine for a club in Canada and we want to duplicate what they have done already!

Rotarians will be involved in planning and construction of the cement ping-pong table. It will have metal nets with Rotary and potentially the Rotary Symbol cut into the net. We are also looking into an embossed Rotary Logo on the table top as well.

If more funding can be obtained this project could expand to an additional table.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project is to be replaced by P-5101. The club received permission from TRF to pivot to a literacy project because of its inability to finance the ping pong project at this time.

Couple of things with your application: 1. you have a applied for a tier 3 project. Your 2023-24 district grant project will be included in D5400's block grant application to The Rotary Foundation in July. Do not place orders or spend money on the project until you hear from the district that TRF has approved our block grant, as you cannot be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to TRF approval. Call Marianne Barker at 208 308-5617 if you have any questions. Thank you!

Please do not reply to this email. You should have received your grant by now, mailed to your club’s mailing address Aug. 11. We are using a bill payer service this year, and the envelope will look different than in the past. Please tell your treasurer to watch for it, and not to discard. Please call me if you don’t have your check (208) 308-5617. Ignore the physical address on the check – D5400 is still PO Box 9592, Boise, ID 83707.

A progress report is needed by May 15th on the status of your revised project. All you need is a history log entry stating when you started the book project, how far along you are as a % and when you anticipate being finished. Thanks!
