Summary: Playground Project for young children
New youth soccer and softball fields built in South Davis Park Complex offer limited play options for families with young children. Fairbanks Sunrisers' Rotary Club approached the Fairbanks Borough Parks and Recreation Department to propose partnering on development of a family friendly play area containing playground equipment and other amenities. Upon completion of the project, young children will have access to a play area and playground equipment when older siblings are practicing or playing soccer/softball. In September 2012, 21 club members clear cut the designated wooded area. Summer 2013 Parks and Recreation brought in fill dirt to level the area. September 2013 Sunrisers worked with a local contractor who performed in-kind donation of time and equipment to prepare the site (level, compact and slope for drainage). In Spring 2014 club members will develop a foot path (with D1) to the 32' by 24' play area and install playground equipment and other amenities. Expected completion date, June 1, 2014. The club members will be involved installing GeoFabric, 30 yards of gravel, compact the playground area, install sonatubes for footings, install Pea Gravel and assemble play equipment.
