Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Chicago Hts-Park Forest

Total Budget: $1,843

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Will provide all local 3rd graders with the Andy & Elmer book that demonstrates the 4-way test

After several years of distributing dictionaries to all local 3rd graders, the Club has decided that we should rethink this since times have changed and most kids have access to google in place of a dictionary.

The Club has been excited to switch gears and focus on a literacy program that will include the book called Andy and Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure which demonstrates the 4-way test. Most children in Chicago Hts.-Park Forest do not have the privilege of owning their own book. This will give them that opportunity, along with the opportunity to learn about living life with the 4-way test. Books are also diverse in nature to match our demographics.

288 books in October or as soon as the book order comes in. We will not be placing the order until after July 1.

Taken from the A & E website:

"This Picture Book is an original story developed to convey Rotary ideals. It is beautifully illustrated and, in addition to the story, there is information about Rotary and a special Apple Dumpling Recipe. The recipe can be a fun project with parents or a classroom project involving skills in reading, math, following directions, and teamwork.

Summary: What starts out as a simple baking project quickly turns into an exciting business venture for Andy and Elmer. Demonstrating The Four-Way Test, a mysterious voice provides guidance for Andy, as he learns the value of truth, fairness, goodwill, friendship and that which is beneficial to all concerned."

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

After looking into purchasing Andy & Elmer books we realized we did not have the funding this year to support this initiative. We decided to do dictionaries this year.
