With almost 17% of children living below the poverty line in Franklin County, Idaho our Rotary Club is looking for proactive measures to help kids and families with an economic need. With improving education situations as an important step to improving long-term economic development, our project is focusing on a small but needed area of providing school supplies. We are initially working to provide backpacks and supplies for incoming 5th-grade students of Oakwood Elementary school. Working with the Preston Education Foundation who helped us identify this need, we expect to provide for every in-need child.
In the past, the Preston Education Foundation had an annual project to provide supplies and clothes for school children in need. However, they are no longer able to continue with this project. We believe this brings a more urgent need for our project to succeed.
The Rotary Club members will be raising funds, purchasing the supplies, preparing, and delivering the backpacks to the teachers for distribution to children. Distribution is expected in August 2023. We plan to distribute at least 45-55 backpack depending on need.

Please do not reply to this email. You should have received your grant by now, mailed to your club’s mailing address Aug. 11. We are using a bill payer service this year, and the envelope will look different than in the past. Please tell your treasurer to watch for it, and not to discard. Please call me if you don’t have your check (208) 308-5617. Ignore the physical address on the check – D5400 is still PO Box 9592, Boise, ID 83707.
