Caldwell Rotary would like to partner with Advocates Against Family Violence's (AAFV) to support their Youth Education & Outreach initiative for the prevention of teen dating and domestic violence in Canyon County homes. This program currently reaches 25-40 children (100% are primary or secondary victims) at the AAFV Hope Lane Learning Center and several hundred teens at Canyon County Juvenile Corrections, Idaho Juvenile Corrections, Canyon County Job Corp and Canyon County Foster Care Programs.
Children raised in homes with domestic violence become victims or offenders in domestic violence cases ore than 50% of the time. the Hpe Lane learning Center works with children using the Creative Curriculum program to ensure they leave our pre-school programs at grade level in 38 developmental areas.
In surveys of Canyon County Juvenile Corrections inmates it was discovered that 100% of those boys and girls lived in homes with domestic violence is the norm. Educational outreach regarding Healthy Relationships, Teen Parenting, Boundaries & Self-esteem are essential to these children. Many disciplinary issues described as being parenting issues cannot be resolved in homes where the parents were themselves the victims of domestic violence because those parents were never shown appropriate relationship/parenting techniques, or boundaries, and their self-esteem was under constant attack.
These programs have been initiated targeting high-risk youth populations in Canyon County. Through AAFV the Rotary of Caldwell will make it possible to expand and enhance these youth outreach initiatives. The Rotary investment will pay for Creative Curriculum Supplies, Pre-school supplies, Teen outreach supplies and the development of education and outreach materials for teen groups. Rotarians will share their own stories for overcoming teen dating violence, domestic violence or child abuse in their lives and can volunteer at trainings to address specific education concepts. Additionally, Rotatrians can stay connected as mentors, Foster Parents, or by providing internships, educational scholarships, and more.
