Summary: Clothing and Education Supplies for Disabled Teens with Serious Medical Condition in Mesa Arizona

Copa Health, a nonprofit healthcare company, is opening a youth transitional living facility for teenagers, 14-17, who have developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and/or behavioral health diagnosis along with a serious medical condition requiring 24 hour 7 days a week care. These foster children will be living for 12-24 months in a facility designed to meet both their mental diagnoses and a serious medical condition.

Comprehensive care covers the diagnosis but does not cover ancillary expenses, such as educational tools and clothing. Mesa Sunrise will use the grant dollars to provide as many of the foster kids with the technology tools needed, i.e., iPads, laptops, etc. for their education and clothing for the children who have needs.

Mesa Sunrise will work with the staff of the Copa Health facility to determine the children who will most benefit because of lack of resources.

Mesa Sunrise will also have interaction, where appropriate, with the youths to assist with other needs. We expect to make a significant impact on 7-10 of the foster children.

We expect to have a list from the Transitional Youth Facility staff in September and then purchase and deliver the items by mid-October. With existing partnerships, we believe we can supply a laptop or iPad (or other technology needs) with wifi access to the identified 7-10 children to assist in their education, with any remaining dollars targeting those who may have clothing needs.

Mesa Sunrise will be able to report on the expenditures and Rotarians interactions throughout the year with those benefiting from the grant.
