he Agents of Influence Video Game is a video game created by Rotarian Anahita Dalmia and Rotaractor Jasper McEvoy, both members of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach. This Project recently won the Grand Prize at the Aspen Institute's Information Disorder competition. This nonpartisan game was introduced to District 5320 Leadership by Steve Bender on May19, 2022. Its goal is to combat "TRUTH DECAY" by teaching youth to think critically and seek the truth through the medium of a video game- a universal recreational activity of 10-13 year age group.
This game was spawned by Rotary's venerable and legendary Four Way Test and the goal of this game's creators is to teach media literacy skills to youth at the time they are most vulnerable to believing misinformation. Three games (the conversation game, the analysis game, and the research game) provide a doorway to sound civic literacy and honorable engagement in the gaming world for youth.
The Laguna Niguel Rotary Club will work with Steve Bender, the game creators and the Rotary clubs in the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) including Monarch Sunrise Rotary, to become the 4th school district to pilot this ingenious and prize-winning project.
The middle school youth of CUSD are the beneficiaries of this project.
