Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Caldwell, ID

Total Budget: $9,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: Leadership program in local elementary schools

This grant would be used to implement Everyday Leadership at three Title I, low-income schools in the Caldwell School district - Wilson Elementary, Van Buren Elementary and Washington Elementary. Approximately 60 students would benefit.

This is a collaborative effort uniting the resources of (1)School teachers and principals, (2)Caldwell School District directors, (3) Treasure Valley YMCA staff and (5) Rotarians from Rotary Clubs of Caldwell.

The grant would be used to provide school teachers and YMCA instructors to lead 13 leadership classes and two community service projects in each school. The funds would also be used to fund field trips and an end-of-session 1-day camp/lock-in at the Caldwell YMCA.

Rotarians play a central role in organizing, facilitating and funding the project. During the school year, 10-15 Rotarians meet with the students to discuss what they are learning and how they are using their new insights. Rotarians also provide logistical and transportation assistance as needed throughout the year.

The program has been very successful and is enthusiastically supported by the School District and the School administrators. Grades have increased, behavioral problems have decreased, and many of the participants have gone on to accelerated learning programs in junior high school.

Please refer to attached budget for a breakdown of costs of this program.

Your 2023-24 district grant project will be included in D5400's block grant application to The Rotary Foundation in July. Do not place orders or spend money on the project until you hear from the district that TRF has approved our block grant, as you cannot be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to TRF approval. A grant report is due no later than May 15th, 2024. Failure to report by the deadline may impact your club's ability to receive a grant in 2024-25 Rotary year. For final report, download the report form from the administration side of the description tab. Fill it out, being sure that the expenses listed in the report match your receipts and any other documentation of expenses you provide. Upload pdf copies of your report and the receipts to the documents tab of your grant. Then click "reported", a button on the administration side of the description tab. If the project is not done, file a progress report - a history log telling us when you started the project, what % complete you are & when you plan to finish it out. Call Marianne 208 308-5617 if you have questions about reporting.
