Summary: The Diamondville Town Park is in great need of an electric door opener for the bathrooms, along with some much needed new paint and mats in the bathrooms, and an ADA complaint drinking fountain.

The Diamondville Town Park is in great need of electric door openers for the bathrooms, along with some much-needed new paint and mats in the bathrooms, and an ADA complaint drinking fountain. The Diamondville Town Park is the most used park in our local area and it is going to become a lot busier over the next few years with the changes coming to the park. Currently, the doors to the men's and women's bathrooms are very heavy and they were built for the cement building and there is no why to change the bathroom doors out. With the bathroom doors being so heavy, many people have a hard time opening them, this includes; kids, people in wheelchairs and the elderly. Kids are going to the bathroom all over the park because they cannot open the door to use the facilities. This is a huge sanitary issue for our community. Not only are the doors so heavy the kids cannot get in, but when they do get in the bathroom sometimes, they then get locked in the bathroom because they cannot push the doors open. The bathroom floors are also very slick and when they are wet, they become even a bigger falling hazard. Currently, the bathroom floors need to be repainted because the ice skates have roughed up the floor from the winter ice skating rink. When we add rubber drainage mats to the bathroom, we will be protecting the floor from the ice skates. However, our biggest hope is that we prevent people, especially kids, from slipping and falling from the water on them from the new splash pad that is being installed at the park.

There is also not a drinking fountain at the park that is ADA compliant. As a Rotary club we want to encourage the community to stay hydrated while playing in the sun, this includes those in wheelchairs. We believe it would be very beneficial to everyone in our communities and surrounding areas if we made drinking water available at our local park.

The Kemmerer Rotary Club will repaint the floors and doors in the bathrooms and will install the rubber mats to prevent accidents from happening. The Town of Diamondville will install the electric door openers and the drinking fountain with the help of our local electricians.

This funding from this project will purchase two electric door openers, an ADA compliant drinking fountain, paint and drainage mats for the bathrooms, and part of the cost from the electricians.

This project will start once the Kemmerer Rotary Club is awarded the grant and will be completed by the end of the 2023 summer.
