Collective Chicago is an organization that actively disrupts cycles of poverty by providing income-sensitive transitional housing, building financial literacy, vocational opportunities, healthy community life, holistic development to empower self-sufficiency for individuals experiencing hardship or are previously un-housed. Regardless of any income, Collective Chicago provides for residents' housing and grocery for the entirety of their stay. For this project between 10-20 Rotarians will provide volunteer support on several days to assist with building, cultivating and creating an outdoor vegetable garden and green space for the residents of Collective to grow vegetables, and host community events in. Rotarians will assist with buying materials, planning, organizing, building and creating a green space and garden area outside of the Collective Chicago transitional housing. The individuals living there will benefit by actively engaging in the project as well as benefiting from use of the green space, as well as maintaining and eating food from the garden. This project will take place in summer and fall of 2023. The green space and garden area will be sustainable and enjoyed for many years to come.
