Historically, the trees at Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska have been labeled with signs that have the name and scientific name of the tree listed. These signs have become faded, are in disrepair, and have become an eyesore. In addition, the signs are screwed to the trees, which is not healthy for the trees. There is a local Boy Scout that would like to work on making new signs as an Eagle Scout project and is needing funds for materials for the new signs that he would like to create. Our local high school has equipment that is capable of creating the signs, and the industrial technology teacher is willing to help with this project. The preliminary estimated cost of the project is $670, so this grant would help in purchasing needed supplies. The Boy Scout also needs volunteer assistance with the project and installation of the signs, which is another way that our club members can help. A Rotary emblem or the name of our club will be listed on the signs or sign posts to help increase visibility for our club in our community, and also will show our support of Pioneer Village. This project would help in educating people, both youth and adults, about trees that are native to Nebraska. The project will be completed within the next year.
