OVERVIEW
Ukrainian refugees have come to San Diego over the last year after fleeing violence and persecution in their home country. Some are passing through to other parts of the U.S., but about 1,000 have remained in San Diego to build a new life here. With prospects for their return to Ukraine uncertain, they need support to create resumes, learn how to conduct a job search, get advice on building small businesses, and seek paths to citizenship. The members of the Rotary Club of Del Ma-Solana Beach are uniquely suited to serve in this way. This project will be partnering with Hope for San Diego.
GOALS
1. Create a space for Del Mar-Solsana Beach Rotary Club members to meet and work with Ukrainian refugees.
2. Equip Ukrainian refugees with resumes and job search skills.
3. Provide, when necessary, information on obtaining citizenship.
4. Build relationships that may result in future mentorship opportunities.
SPECIFICATIONS
We will host a breakfast meeting where Ukrainians living in San Diego can bring their current resumes and job search plans to share with Rotary members. We will pair individual members with one or two Ukrainians for personal assistance with their needs related to seeking sustained employment. Before this breakfast, we will develop a training program for Rotary members to build their expertise in providing this type of assistance.
