Project Description

Country: Mexico

Location: Ensenada. Mexico

Total Budget: $6,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: Renovation

Summary: Revovation of greehouse, sprinkler system and painting at Casa De Paz in Ensenada, Mexico.

Currently Casa De Paz in Ensenada, Mexico has a greenhouse that is over-run with weeds and has no plants or sprinkler system. There are multiple buildings that need painting and doors replaced. Members of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club will go to Casa De Paz on October 18, 2014 to complete work of getting the greenhouse ready for planting and installing a new sprinkler system. The Club will paint the inside of the new boys dorm and install doors. A new hot water heater for the new boys dorm and a new stove, oven, refrigerator and sink are included in this grant.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

In looking at the needs of Casa de Paz, the project scope of work changed. In a storm last winter, the roof was blown off the greenhouse, so the greenhouse project was delayed. The building Casa de Paz was originally trying to get ready was put on the back-burner. This was due to the costs being in excess of $20,000 to finish that building. The goal was to segregate the older boys from the younger boys. There was a maternity dorm that wasn't being used, so a committee with the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club recommended we put the younger boys in that dorm. We went to Casa de Paz during the summer of 2014 and told them we can get that building ready on October 18, 2014 by painting the inside, putting new toilets in, purchasing beds, mattresses and sheets for this dorm. The $6,000.00 District Grant provided for all of this. We had 75 people show up on October 18, so we were also able to paint the inside of the older boys dorm and an outside stage that was unfinished wood before this project.

After trying to find out who the Club Contact was for District Grants, I finally found out it was myself. ;-) I signed the Final Report and it is in the "Documents" section of District Grant # P-495. Casa de Paz needs more sheets and pillow cases and there is an extra $180.00 left over, so I'll go purchase those this morning, upload the receipt and then close this District Grant. Thank you all for your support through this project!!
