Project Description Country: USA Location: Mineral Wells, TX Total Budget: $3,420 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Health: General Summary: Mineral Wells Rotary Club is helping fund the MWISD Travis Elementary with an outdoor sun screen for their palyground. Our President and Board of Directors decided we wanted to do something in the youth services arena. After looking at our available funding with matching funds from the DDF we have $3,420 to help the elementary school. We met with the MWISD Asst. Superintendent and inquired about needs. We wanted to help upgrade playground equipment, but the budget far exceeded our means. The Superintendent spoke with the elementary school principals and put us in touch with the Lamar Elementary School Principal. We discussed her needs and our funds to help and came to the conclusion that an outdoor sunshade would be the most beneficial. As schools start in mid August, we are still in the heat of the summer and they are having to cancel outdoor recess for the students due to the heat. The Principal is getting quotes and vetting the quality products that they desire. Once it is installed, we will have a Rotary Logo identifying who provided the sunshade and have a club social so everyone may see the accomplishments from our District Grant this year.
