There are four school districts (Denton, Sanger, Lake Dallas, and Krum) that will be included in this project, with at least 32 elementary schools involved. Dictionaries will be presented to each third grader by the close of the first semester.
This will occur in a timely manner for skill learning activities during the second semester. Historically, in previous projects, teachers have expressed appreciation for such support. Students have shown pride in having a personal book of their own.
Outlined below are elements of the project plan that will assure its success.
1. An estimated 3000 dictionaries will be ordered. Upon arrival, they will be warehoused at a local business site and then distributed during the months of October, November, and December, 2023, and if necessary, during January 2024.
2. Contact will be made by designated club members with each campus Principal to determine date and time of delivery, as well as learn the exact number of books needed for said campus. Plans will be organized for club members to conduct an assembly on each campus to present the dictionaries and practice their use of them.
3. It is expected that the dictionaries will be presented at the close of the first semester. The project will be completed by February 15, 2024, and the final project report will be submitted by March 31, 2024.
4. DDF funds and club funds will be used to purchase the dictionaries. Rotary labels exist in our club inventory. Each one includes the Rotary insignia, the Four-way Test, and space for each student to sign and personalize their respective copy.
5. This project is viewed as an "all club" project with the expectation of 100% participation encouraged/expected. Teams of two members will be organized and prepared to make arrangements for delivery and to conduct a short assembly of all 3rd graders on each campus.
6. Follow up contact with each Principal will be conducted in an attempt to determine the overall impact of the project.
