Summary: Provide 700 books to Title 1 school first grade students in the San Marcos Unified School District.
The Rotary Club of San Marcos helps to address the need to promote literacy in the San Marcos Unified School District Title 1 Schools by providing a new book to each first grade student. Title 1 schools have a student base where at least 40% come from low-income families. The Club will use the funds to purchase an age-appropriate book for each student and two Rotarians visit each first grade classroom, introduce Rotary to them, read the book, and then distribute the book to each child to keep. For many kids, this is the first new book they have ever owned!
