Diabetes and hypertension prevention for those aged 60 and up is the focus of this initiative.
According to WHO, Trinidad and Tobago is rated 18th in the world for Diabetes and Hypertension, with a population of 1.4 million people. Both diseases affect more than 12% of the elderly in Trinidad and Tobago.
These disorders can be better controlled if the required tools are given to these vulnerable seniors. The goal of this grant is to educate people who are already suffering from these diseases on effective care and management strategies.
We will be able to donate 20 blood test kits, testing strips, and electric pressure machines through this initiative. The Rotary Club of Point Fortin and our President Sharlin Borel, who lives in Trinidad and Tobago, will collaborate to provide these tools to two (2) seniors centers serving over 60 seniors.
