This project is a District 6450 Supported Environmental Service Project and was approved by District Environmental Service Chair Mary Onorad on 9/28/23 as part of the $3,000 Environmental Service Projects line item in the 23/24 District Grant approved by The Rotary Foundation.
The club will work with the Fox Valley Park District (FVPD) to plant an End Polio Now commemorative tree on October 24, World Polio Day, at Rotary Park in Aurora sometime in the morning, prior to the club's World Polio Day event that evening. FVPD will provide an Autumn Blaze Maple tree, an engraved bronze plaque and will dig the hole. Club members will plant the tree, mulch it in and place the dedication plaque/stone. They will commemorate the tree with a short ceremony and tie a big purple ribbon around the tree trunk and place purple flowers at the base.
The engraved plaque will say:
October 24, 2023
World Polio Day
Working to End Polio Now
Rotary Club of Aurora United
The club will take photos/video and share on social media and website. The intention will be to visit the tree every year on World Polio Day to place a purple bow and flowers as part of our annual World Polio Day commemoration.
