in this area of Myanmar/Burma, there are distinct dry and wet seasons. Now, villagers have to walk a long way to get water during the dry season, requiring lots of time and effort.
The project involves digging a capture pond for the water, transporting it by pipe to the village and accessing it by a hand pump, and constructing a fence around the pond to ensure safety and water purity.
AER will be responsible for oversight of the funds and paying invoices. AER Rotarians will travel to Myanmar/Burma in December 2014 to view the site, to meet with suppliers, and to arrange for purchase of the necessary materials, equipment, etc. If necessary, Rotary clubs in nearby Thailand will help in paying bills that may be difficult to pay from Anchorage. There is now one Rotary club in Myanmar/Burma. AER Rotarians will attempt to connect with this club and determine if the club is able to help in any way. Since the club is brand new , we are uncertain as to what the club is capable of doing.
Local contacts have provided a list of items on which the money will be spent: labor for the fencing and for digging the pond, American chain, link fence, entrance gate, stair, pole, hand pump, liner.
