Project Description Country: USA Location: National City, CA Total Budget: $2,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Distribution of Dictionaries and reading books to 1st- 3rd graders to Title 1 schools in National City National City Title 1 schools need help getting their kids the tools to read and write proficiently. Books and dictionaries would help satisfy this need. Project funds would be used to purchase a combination of $2 books mentioned in DG Larry Sundram's district literacy project and dictionaries. Fundraising for the project should be completed by January 2012. We hope to have all funds by February 2012. Distribution would take place in March 2012. Our School is Kimball Elementary. The principal has been put in touch with Rolling Readers so she can order the books which best fits her student's needs. The Rolling Readers Director is scheduled to visit us on February 28th and the school's principal will also be there. We are scheduling a day in March to read to the children. Once a date has been established, I will submit another progress report. 10-Jul-12 by Bill Goulet I have submitted all financial documents that were reqired of this grant to the best of my ability. This grant was used to supply readers to Kimball Elementary, a title 1 school. Our club personally handed out the readers and read to the kids in May of 2012. In addition we also helped to buy some much needed school supplies for the National School District during my year. All schools in the National School District are Title 1 schools. National City Police Chief Adolfo Gonzalez spearheaded this program and he is a member of our club. In addition we worked tirelessly with National City Middle schools to incentivise good grades by supplying bicycles to those students who exceled in their studies.
