Fort Worth is in the process of starting an Interact Club with the Crowley ISD - one of the projects is to help develop a strong base of leaders.
We are requesting the opportunity to implement a program developed by a national Organization called SkillsUSA which focuses on leadership development. This program would cost approximately $1,000.00 to implement for 40 students. The curriculum is entitled Professional Development Program (PDP) and allows students to develop employability or soft skills needed for smooth transition to the workforce or higher education. The benefits of the program include:
• Each student builds a job portfolio
• Meets SCANS and state standards requirements
• Involves industry in the classroom
• Facilitates integration of academic and CTE content
After going through leadership development, students will be involved in community service projects, as campus ambassadors, and serve as mentors for younger students. Additionally, students will compete in leadership activities and many will attend the Leadership Development Day at the Texas State Capitol.
This amount would allow 40 highly qualified students to attend one PDP event. As this is a program that Crowley ISD has only had limited participation due to funding - the matching grant portion would allow Crowley ISD to plan and prepare for the following year. Our club has been some impressed with the structure of the Crowley ISD that we all feel it would be "Beneficial to All Concerned" to plan for the future and not just a year at a time. Our club would over see the funding as out lined in the recently signed and submitted HOU insuring all funds are utilized to fulfill this funding request.
We are in hopes that this is the beginning to a long lasting partnership with the Crowley ISD as well as showing the students what Rotary can due & in turn plant that seed of becoming a Rotarian.
