Project Description

Country: Philippines

Location: SanIsidro Talakag Bukidno

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Purchase breeding gilts and diesel power 5 kw generator for families in San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon, Philippines.

The Hastings Sunrise Rotary Club has committed to provide $2000 to assist the HELP Foundation (Humanitarian Efforts to Lessen Poverty of Underprivileged Children in the Philippines) a nonprofit, charitable organization committed to bringing hope and opportunity to the people of the Philippines. The donation will purchase several gilts and a diesel power 5 kw generator for the agricultural facility. The project is intended to be self-sustaining once the initial breeding herd is established. Local poor families in the Bukidnon province will be taught basic animal husbandry skills and provided a starter gilt. The gilts will be bred and farrowed. When the piglets reach weaning age, the gilts will be held back to increase the herd size and the males will be sold to provide economic support to the families. The generator is needed to power the exiting ag facility. The area experiences daily brownouts of 6-8 hours. The generator will keep all ag projects operational. Since this is an international project local club members will be involved in securing grant funds, coordinating the distribution of the funds and following up with the HELP Foundation to see the funds in action. The Hastings Sunrise Rotary Club has two veterinarians in membership. The veterinarians can provide professional consultation if needed.

In behalf of BigHoop Charities I wish to thank you and Hastings Sunrise Rotary Club for your generous donation of $2,000 to our swine project and purchase of generator. We are deeply grateful of your support which would help us assist low-income families in the community of Talakag.

Hi Patricia,

I am in the Philippines and will return to Kansas on February 15. I will have our after action report finished and will provide you a hard copy of receipts, narrative, and pictures upon my return. I will tell you now that we didn't have enough funds to buy the size of generator we needed so we used all of your donation on purchase of the gilts, expansion of the swine facility and for feeds. I think you will be impressed with the photos of your "hogs"!!

YIR,

Keith Hooper
