There are about 500 Families in dire poverty in Puerto El Flor in Usulutan, El Salvador. The two previous Jungle Medical Clinic District grants have significantly helped the community and the families are now taking basic steps to prevent common diseases such as common cold/fever etc for women and children. This project will help teach the families the following
1. Preventative Health Care - A maternal and infant health professional will visit the already established clinic twice a month to provide the badly needed counseling and follow up home visits as necessary
2. Demonstrative training - on cooking recipes based on soy food preparation, vegetable growing, chicken raising etc. Basic food baskets will be delivered to families with the most malnourished families.
3. Environmental Sanitation - A community volunteer health promoter will teach simple hygiene, proper use of potable water, disposal of waste etc.
This is a very successful sustainable project and a local NGO called OEF will continue to maintain the clinic after this project is complete. The duration of this project is 9 months.
