Villa Park Elementary School has been serving the community for about 130 years. It has a current school population of approximately 600 students from Villa Park, the City of Orange and from Anaheim Hills. The students range in age from 5 to 12 years old. Because of budgetary constraints and shortfalls, the Villa Park Elementary School library has not been updated in many years and is in desperate need of improvement. The library facility is in almost continual use and fulfills many functions. It provides the customary venue for students to read and obtain books as well as other educational materials. Some of these students have no other accessible library services available to them. The library is also used for the after school day care program and the homework club. It is available to students before and after school as well as during morning and lunch recess.
The financial needs of the library's daily operation have been supported in large part through the fund raising efforts of the Villa Park Elementary Home and School League. See the cooperation letter in the documents section. This volunteer 501c3 organization has done a remarkable job over the years. However, the needs of the library and its antiquated facilities are far beyond the scope of volunteer fundraising.
The Villa Park Elementary Home and School League along with library staff have identified 2 of the libraries most urgent needs. Using matching grant funds, The Rotary Club of Villa Park will purchase, assemble and install some of these much needed improvements.
• New Book Shelves.
The library's current book shelves are too few, in poor condition and reflect an antiquated design. The new shelves would provide much needed additional capacity to display books in a fashion that make the reading materials more easily accessible and appealing to students. See Photos and Documents sections for costs and further information.
• Vinyl Floor Rocking Chairs
Currently, much of the limited seating capacity in the library is provided by several bean bag and class room chairs. New vinyl floor rocking chairs would provide important and more ergonomically friendly seating areas for students to read. See Documents section for costs and further information.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
On March 20, 2015, volunteer members of the Rotary Club of Villa Park and the Villa Park Elementary Dad's club assembled and installed the library shelving. We are awaiting arrival of the new chairs.
April 27, 2015 Update:
The VP Elementary school officials were able to research and negotiate a lower price for the listed items which resulted in a $1762.00 surplus. The surplus funds will be used to purchase additional seating and computer equipment for the library. Two additional chairs will be purchased. The computer equipment will consist of 5 Google Chrome books and a "Tech Tub" to charge the Chrome Books.
