Through the "Microloans For Mothers" progam at two schools in Cambodia it's been demonstrated that there are mothers who can significantly improve their quality of life (and that of their families) through obtaining a small loan, with which they can start a simple business.
This need is met by the issuing of a $100, $150 or $200 loan that is paid back, with interest, over a 6-month period.
We propose giving 65 microloans over a period of 18 months. There would be three 6-month loan cycles from July, 2011 through December 2012. The first loan cycle has had 30 loans funded in amount of $3,250. (now in progress), and the second will have 45 loans issued (starting in January, 2012, and the third cycle will have 65 loans. The director of the project, Encinitas Rotarian, Niels Lund, recently visited Cambodia and gave presentations to the Rotary Clubs of Phnom Penh and Pursat, which will be connected to the project in 2012. $13,000 is allocated only for loan principal with administration costs being paid $4,000 Class Act and $3,000 Encinitas Rotary Club. MRM and District grant funds will be used only for loan principal. Class Act will provide additional funds next year for administrative costs.
District funds (3,000), the club contribution (8,000), and the MRM Committee (5,000) , (4,000) by Class-ACT (the non-profit organization managing "Microloans For Mothers").
