After foster children reach the age of 18 the State of Texas removes them from their foster homes and they are left to fend for themselves. Many of the children are still in high school, with no place to live, no way to get to school, have no money, very few clothes, etc. A place for 30 young women who have aged out of the foster care system will be provided with a place to live for eighteen months. They will have a place to sleep, meals to eat,clothes to wear and means of transportion. They will also receive education and support to find jobs and/or to continue their education at the college level. The Rotary Club of Arlington Sunrise will provide the 15 bunk beds, mattresses and bedding so these young girls will have a place to sleep.
The club members will purchase the materials to build the bunks over several Saturdays. Then five months from now at the end of December when the women's dorms are ready to be occupied, the club members will meet to assemble the beds and make them ready for use.
Materials for bunk beds = 1,900
30 mattresses = 4,200
30 sets of bedding = 1500
Total = $7,600
If we receive the $2,500 grant our club will provide $5,100.
