Project Description

Country: Mexico

Location: East Tijuana

Total Budget: $4,500

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Rotarians and Interactors will build a home for a needy family that live in a very poor area of East Tijuana, Mexico.

Each year Project Mercy, a non-profit San Diego invites organizations to build houses for the destitute families in the colonias east of Tijuana, Mexico. Various organizations accept the invitation by paying for the supplies to build a home and then on a designated day providing the personal to build a home. This year's date is September 27th. It is always a difficult decision as to which families will be selected to have a new home, but families with small children, single mothers and handicapped people usually head the list. It is anticipated that 15 or 16 houses will be built this year.

The Rotary Club of Fallbrook in conjunction with the Interact Clubs of Fallbrook High School and Francis Parker High School plan to build one of these houses this year. The cost of the material for one house is $4500. The Rotary Club of Fallbrook has pledged $2250 to purchase the materials and would like District matching funds reach the material costs.

This is an opportunity for members of The Rotary Club of Fallbrook and Interactors from Fallbrook HS and Francis Parker HS to build a house in one day for a very needy family. Please see the pictures attached.
