Underprivaledge students in several areas of Orange County do not have the opportunity to leave their community on organized field trips for a better understanding of their surroundings and related responsibilities. The Ocean Institute in Dana Point (www.ocean-institute.org) provides fields trips to learn about marine sciences, marine history and to study the ocean environment while improvingthe student's citizenship kills. Rotarians will participate in selecting the classes (schools) and meet/interact with the students on the boat trips.
The project will sponsor a minimum of three trips, each for up to 40 underserved students, including all course fees and transportation costs. The donation amount for 1 boat program is $3,000 (see attached document). Because of the size of our donation ($8,000), Ms. Kat Dej-Panah, Adopt-A-Class Manager, will arrange for three boat programs, maybe more depending on school (s) selection. We will have 4 to 5 Rotarians on each boat trip to interact with the children and their teachers. I will upload pitchers from last year plus a letter from one of the schools who participated in our program last year.
A newspaper article with photos wii be submitted for publication in the Orange County Register.
The project will be stated in October 2014 and completed by April, 2015.
